How the Redstone Elevator Works (4-Stage Mechanism)
Every component fits inside the existing 3×3 central spine of your Citadel Keep (X = -1..1, Z = -1..1) with the bottom piston swapper tucked flush inside the Y = 0 ground floor along Z = 0.

Step-by-Step Survival Construction Order
- Step 1 — Build the Y = 0 Piston Slider (Z = 0): At
(0, 0, 0) place Soul Sand, and at (1, 0, 0) place a Magma Block. Leave (-1, 0, 0) as Air. Place a Regular Piston at (-2, 0, 0) facing East (+X) and a Regular Piston at (2, 0, 0) facing West (-X).
- Step 2 — Build the Y = 1 Target & Lamp Triggers (Z = 0): Place a Target Block (or Deepslate Bricks) at
(-1, 1, 0) and (1, 1, 0) to seal the bottom of the water shaft. Directly on top of the two pistons at (-2, 1, 0) and (2, 1, 0), place a Redstone Lamp (or Note Block). When the Observer at Y = 2 fires downward into the Target Block at Y = 1, it strongly powers the Target Block, lighting the adjacent Lamp and firing the Piston underneath!
- Step 3 — Stack the West (UP) & East (DOWN) Signal Walls: Along
(-1, y, 0) and (1, y, 0), place a Note Block at each floor's button height (Y_floor + 2, or Y = 3 on the ground floor). Fill every block between the Note Blocks with Observers looking UP (+Y) and pointing DOWN (-Y). Because every Note Block has a solid Observer directly on top of it, all Note Blocks are 100% acoustically muted.
- Step 4 — Mount the Buttons & Doorway Signs (Z = +1): On each floor, place 2 Spruce Signs inside the doorway at
(0, Y_floor+1, 1) and (0, Y_floor+2, 1), and fill (0, y, 1) between floors with Glass Blocks. Mount the UP Button on the South face of the left Spruce post (-1, Y_btn, 1) and the DOWN Button on the right Spruce post (1, Y_btn, 1).
- Step 5 — Fill the 1×1 Water Column with Kelp: Place a temporary dirt block at
(0, 0, 0), place water at the very top of (0, Y_top, 0), and plant Kelp all the way up from Y = 1 to convert every flowing block into a water source block. Break the bottom kelp, put the Soul Sand back at (0, 0, 0), and test your buttons!
